Allama Iqbal and Ideology of Pakistan

PREFACE

The Ideology of Pakistan, in reality, is the Ideology of Islam. The life of any Nation is subject to either human Ideology or metaphysical Ideology. An ideology emerges when people feel strongly that they are being mistreated under an existing order when fundamental societal changes threaten their status and the prevailing Ideology no longer satisfies them.

DERIVATION OF WORD IDEOLOGY

The word ideology is composed of two Greek words, “Ideo” and “Logos”, which means “the science or study of ideas”:

MEANING OF WORD IDEOLOGY

The meaning of the word Ideology is the way of thinking about class, culture, or of an individual.

DEFINITION OF IDEOLOGY

According to De Tracy,

“Ideology is the science of ideas and their origin.”

CHARACTERISTICS OF AN IDEOLOGY

The following are the characteristics of an ideology;

  1. Maximum people should be united on this Ideology
  2. Enough workforce is requisite for it
  3. This can be obtained through collective efforts
  4. The Ideology must be harmonized with the nation’s feelings, emotions, traditions, beliefs, and values.

IDEOLNation PAKISTAN

The Ideology of Pakistan took shape through an evolutionary process. Historical experience provided the base. Allama Iqbal gave it a philosophical explanation. Quaid-e-Azam translated it into a political reality, and the constituent assembly of Pakistan, bypassing Objective Resolution in March 1949, gave it legal sanction.

  • The Ideology of Pakistan is an implementation of Islamic teachings.
  • The Ideology of Pakistan is Islamic

IDEOLOGY OF PAKISTAN, ACCORDING TO ALLAMA IQBAL

Allama Iqbal was the person who, for the first time, gave the concept of a separate state for the Muslims, keeping in view the Two Nation Theory; he clearly explained the Ideology of Pakistan in his sayings and poetry.

1. CONCEPT OF TWO-NATION THEORY

Allama Iqbal explains the two-nation theory: “Despite living together for 1000 years, Hindus and Muslims have their own individual ideologies and independent parliament for each nation.”

2. ISLAM IS A LIVELY POWER

In his address, he said,

“Islam is a lively power which frees the human mind. Irony thoughts, country and race. If we understand this, we can be the leaders of prominent Indian civilization.”

3. ISLAM IS A COMPLETE CODE OF LIFE

In the annual meeting of the Muslim League on December 29, 1930, at Allahabad, he said.

Islam is not the name of some beliefs and customs, but it is a complete code of life. In Europe, religion is everyone’s matter, which divides human oneness into two opposite parts, i.e. body and soul. In contrast to Islam, God, the Universe, soul, matter, state, and religions are bound to each other.

4. ISLAM IS THE WAY TO SUCCESS

Allama Iqbal said about Islam

The lesson which I learned from history is that Islam has always helped Muslims. Even today, the Ideology of Islam can save your being from destruction by uniting your divided power.

5. CONCEPT OF A SEPARATE MUSLIM STATE

Dr. Muhammad Allama Iqbal was a great supporter and preacher of the separate Muslim state. He gave this idea of an independent state for the Muslims in 1930 while addressing the annual meeting of the All India Muslim League in Allahabad,

I want to see the Punjab NWFP. Sindh and Balochistan are one homogenous state, whether India gained independence under the crows of England or out of it.

6. SEPARATE HOMELAND

Allama Iqbal presented his political opinion in his Presidential address at Allahabad at the 25th annual Session of the All India Muslim League. He said;

“I am convinced that the Muslims of India will ultimately have to establish a separate homeland as they could not live with the Hindus in the United States.”

7. COMMENDATION OF THE IDEA OF SINGLE NATION

In March 1909, Iqbal was asked to address a meeting held by Minrav Raj Amritsar, but he refused to address that meeting & said,

“I remained a supporter of this idea, but now I believe that preserving separate nationhood is useful for Hindus and Muslims birth. To have the concept of a single nation in IndiNationo is poetic and beautiful but impractical regarding present circumstances.

8. UNITY OF THE MUSLIM WORLD

Allam Iqbal was a great supporter of Muslims Unity. He gave the message to the Nation of unitNationality, fraternity & tolerance. He also declared no discrimination based on colour, caste, and creed in Islam.

9. OPPOSITION OF NATIONALISM

He described the reason for opposition to nationalism in the words

“I am opposed to nationalism, not because it is allowed to develop in India. It is likely to bring less material gain to Muslims; I am opposed to it because I see the germs of atheistic materialism, which I consider the greatest danger to modern humanity.”

10 ERADICATION OF RACIAL & REGIONAL PREJUDICES

Allama Iqbal rejected the Racial & Regional Prejudices. Once he said in this regard:

“Concept of nation and home confusing the Muslims. That is why Islamic humane objects are becoming dim. It is also possible that these concepts may destroy the fundamental images of Islam.

11. SEPARATE RECOGNITION OF MUSLIMS

Allama Iqbal clarified that Muslims have separate recognition from the Hindus based on religion and culture. In this regard, he said India is not a country; it is a sub-continent of people belonging to different languages and practising other faiths. The Muslim nation has its national and cultural identity.

12. FOUNDATION OF PAKISTAN

Allama Iqbal not only put forward the proposal of Pakistan. Creation by uniting the Muslim majority provinces of north-western India, he also explicitly pointed out the foundations on which this state was to be established and was to function.

FINAL NOTE

In his sayings on one side, Allama Iqbal has discussed the golden principles of the Quran and Islam. On the other side, he advised the Muslims to be robust against the pagan forces by acting upon these golden principles of Islam, thus remaining central to the concept of Pakistani nationalism. With the help of his poetry, he tried to awaken the Muslims of the sub-continent.
