Law Admission Test (LAT) is a standardized test conducted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Its aim is to evaluate the academic ability, critical thinking, and analytical skills of candidates seeking admission to the undergraduate five-year LLB program. The test is mandatory and the candidates, aspiring to pursue a degree in law in Pakistan, must score at least 50% marks in the test.
Purpose of Law Admission Test:
The main objective of LAT is to ensure that candidates have the necessary skills and knowledge required to excel in the challenging and complex field of law. The test is designed to assess the aptitude of candidates in areas such as comprehension, logical reasoning, and writing skills.
HEC Law Admission Test will be held on April 09, 2023. The last date to apply for the Law Admission Test is March 27, 2023. LAT is conducted almost two to three times a year, usually in the months of March, June, and September. The test is conducted in different test centers in all the major cities across the country. The test is open to all candidates who have completed their intermediate or equivalent education with at least 50% marks.
Syllabus for LAT:
The test consists of an Objective portion of multiple-choice questions and a Subjective portion.
The objective portion of the Law Admission Test covers six major areas of study. All the questions are MCQs based. They are briefly discussed below.

The subjective portion consists of a short essay and personal statement that evaluates the candidates’ writing skills.

Who Can Apply for HEC Law Admission Test?
The Law Admission Test (LAT) is a test administered by the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan across various universities across the country.
As per the eligibility criteria of HEC, the following candidates can apply for the LAT:
- Candidates who have completed a 12-year education and have obtained at least 50% marks in their intermediate (HSSC) or equivalent examination.
- Students who have appeared in the final examination of HSSC or equivalent and they are waiting for their results.

- Applicants may select any examination center from the list available in the application form. Please note that the examination center will not be changed after registration.
How to get Roll Number Slip?
Applicants who get registered through HEC online registration process will be able to download their Roll Number Slips through this LINK most probably, a week before the examination date.
Email/SMS will also be sent to the registered candidates regarding the examination date, time, and test centers. Candidates are required to provide valid email/mobile numbers while filling out the online application form.
A print-out of the Roll Number Slip and original CNIC will be required to enter in Examination Centre. Any change in the examination date will be communicated through http://etc.hec.gov.pk.
